Who Was Stephanie?
Stephanie was a fierce advocate for other women. She showed up for people around her with a kind of love, strength and determination that left a mark on everyone she met. She believed deeply that every woman deserved safety, dignity, and a second chance.
But Stephanie carried her own pain quietly. She struggled with alcohol addiction. She endured an abusive relationship. She lived with trauma that she never fully got the help she needed to heal from. She poured herself into others while fighting battles of her own that no one fully saw.
On May 2, 2025, Stephanie died by suicide. She was loved deeply, and her loss broke the hearts of everyone who knew her.
Stephanie Sanctuary was born from that grief and from a determination that her story would not be the end, but a beginning. We are building this sanctuary so that other women who are fighting the same battles Stephanie fought, including addiction, abuse, trauma, and hopelessness, will have a place to come, be seen, and find their way through.
She fought for everyone else. Now we fight for women like her. Stephanie Sanctuary is her pain turned into purpose, a living tribute that says her life mattered, her story matters, and no woman should have to fight alone.
A Letter From Stephanie's Mother
Dear Friends,
My name is Melissa Martinez, and I am the mother of Stephanie, the beautiful soul whose memory inspires this mission.
On May 2, 2025, my world changed forever. Losing my daughter created a pain that words cannot fully describe. As I navigated grief, I found myself asking how I could honor Stephanie's life in a way that would make a lasting difference. From that question, Stephanie's Sanctuary was born.
Stephanie Sanctuary is more than a dream. It is a promise.
It is a promise that women facing trauma, addiction, abuse, homelessness, and life's most difficult challenges will have a place where they are seen, valued, and supported. A place where they can begin again without judgment and with the resources they need to move forward.
I envision a sanctuary where women can find safe housing, counseling, education, job training, and the encouragement needed to rebuild their lives. A place where healing is possible and hope is restored. A place where no woman feels forgotten.
Stephanie had a light that touched everyone around her. Through this sanctuary, I hope that light continues to shine by helping others discover their own strength, worth, and purpose.
My journey through grief has taught me that even in our darkest moments, God can create something beautiful. Stephanie's Sanctuary is my way of transforming loss into love, pain into purpose, and memory into a legacy that serves others.
